A Swiss man, on holiday in Dublin, needed directions. He saw two youths walking by so he stopped
them and asked, "Entschuldigung, koennen Sie Deutsch sprechen?"
The two lads looked at each other blankly and stared back at him.
"Excusez-moi, parlez vous Fran?ais ?" he tried.
The two continued to stare.
"Parlare Italiano?" Still there was absolutely no response from the two lads.
"Hablan ustedes Espanol?" The Dublin lads remained totally silent.
The man finally walked off extremely disappointed and downhearted that he had not been
understood. One of the boys remarked to the other, "Y'know, maybe we should learn a foreign
language!"
"Why?" replied the other, "That guy knew four languages, and it didn't do him any good!"
